GENERATION X
By Douglas Coupland

Let me just say, that not reading this book, it like missing the summer blockbuster movie that everyone will be talking about. You don't go into Spiderman expecting to see this years Oscar pick, but it's a part of our generation's pop culture. All you really want is air conditioning and entertainment.
Gen X is kind of the same. Andy, Dag, and Claire are loveable enough, and in some ways completely identifiable, with their anti-mainstream, don't let the man get your down mentality. The book first struck me as humorous, inventive, but by the end, felt like I had watched a two week marathon of the real world and just wanted to yell, "Grow Up, and quit talking about your feelings!"
The most memorable and funny part of the read, were the words and phrases printed on the margins. In those phrases I saw friends and myself and felt they more poignantly described our lost generation than the actual book did. Although I'm not extolling it as the voice of my people, it's worth the read.
This is (at best) an extended cutline. Way to phone it in.
