GIRLS ON THE VERGE

Debutante Dips, Drive- Bys and other Intitiations

Vendela Vida

Victoria Sez

Growing up, I had always been in some kind of clique. Whether it be in the Japs, the Alternative club kids or the rebels. When I got to college, I succumbed to the most horrific experience of all. I did what Vendela Vida so proudly writes about. I rushed a sorority. Now for protection purposes, I cannot name names but suffice it to say, I was put through hell. I had to stick my hands in toilets, separate sprinkles with marshmellow fluff on my fingertips, do somersalts while reciting the greek alphabet being cautious not to utter the three sacred letters of the sorority we were pledging. All this and more until our initiation date when all the sisters who had treated us like shit would all the sudden be our best friends.

Okay, hold the phones because I ain't hearing this. Why do we need a sense of belonging? Why must we fit into a certain clique or group? Even gang members who are so strong and bold need a sense of belonging. All in all we are an insecure world living in a needy time. No matter who we are and where we come from, even including our racial and financial backround, the ideaology of belonging is apparent on all out minds. This book, while I really have to say is a YAWNER, can be an interesting read. Think of it as one of those time to time things. Thumbs down baby
