Dear Mr. or Mrs. Fan,
In response to your request to review this movie, I’m happy to report that this is, indeed, a movie. What’s it about, you ask? Well, it’s a serial killer movie. So, it’s about serial killers. Yes. In it, a still very young Ewan McGregor plays a law student who gets a part-time job doing the night shift at a creepy morgue. He thinks he will have it easy (“All I have to do is sit on my ass and read a book”) but, of course, he’s wrong. Because, you know. Serial killer.
What follows is not a bad movie, I guess…? As you can probably tell from my general lack of overwhelming enthusiasm, I wasn’t much impressed with this particular slasher flick. It features some good enough actors (apart from McGregor, we have Nick Nolte and Josh Brolin) who do a decent enough job, but the whole thing is just… Standard. Creepy doctors. Scary morgue. Obvious decoys and even more obvious culprits. Oh, come on: after you’ve seen Nick Nolte’s character salivate over a dead whore in the morgue, you immediately know he is the killer. I mean, oops, spoilers… Did I ruin it for you? Aww…
It’s apparently based on a Danish movie I also never heard of, which is, of course, according to the IMDb trolls, “soooo much better!” So, maybe you should check that one out. This one, on that same IMDb, receives a score of 6.2, and I think that’s just about right: a little better than average, but not much.
So, my advice to you, Mr. or Mrs. Fan: if nothing else, then maybe. But if you like serial killer movies, there are far better choices.
Sincerely, as always
The Crazy Dutchman
